Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Process Operator in Fort Saskatchewan, (AB, CAN)!

At Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Dow Canada operates four world-scale production units that manufacture hydrocarbons, ethylene, polyethylene, and electricity. Serving our global customers, Dow Canada’s operations in Fort Saskatchewan from one of the largest petrochemical facilities in Canada. Dow currently has openings for Operating Technicians to work at our Fort Saskatchewan complex. The role of the Process Operator includes operating equipment and process related control systems in a safe environmentally responsible manner. The role involves optimizing plant performance by monitoring process equipment and conditions, conducting field checks, adjusting control systems manually and operated equipment based on process controls in a safe and efficient manner.
About you
You are a team player, have good prioritization and organizational skills, and demonstrate competencies in the areas of: leadership, initiative, teamwork, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Also, you can complete each of the following tasks:
  • Monitor
  • Troubleshoot
  • Optimize plant operation
  • Work within a team environment
  • Work a 12 hour rotating shifts
  • Be self-motivated
  • Perform duties in a safe, environmentally responsible manner
  • Follow Operating Discipline policies, principles, procedures, standards and practices to ensure safe and reliable operation of assigned plant areas.
Required qualifications
  • A minimum of a High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • Able to work a 12 hour rotating shift.
  • A minimum requirement for this Canada based position is the ability to work legally in the Canada. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position.
Your preferred qualifications include:
  • Related two year technical diploma, such as Chemical Engineering Technology or Power Engineering Technology.
  • Completion of Alberta 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th Class.
  • 1 or more years related (Operations, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Electrical) work experience
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
The physical abilities, with or without reasonable accommodations, include:
  • Medically approved to respond to emergencies.
  • Physically & Mentally able to work in stressful environments including, but not limited to: confined spaces, low visibility, fully encapsulated PPE, and extreme close proximity to others.
  • Physically & Mentally able to work at varying heights in an emergency capacity.
  • Frequent/Occasional lifting of material weighing approximately 50lbs.
  • Must have or be willing to earn EMT-Basic and HazMat Technician certifications.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to respirator, SCBA, safety harness.
  • Essential functions of this position may require, among other things, that the employee use particular types of equipment – such as on-site safety equipment that has specific weight limitations whereby the individual’s own weight, plus the weight of tools and other items and materials, must not exceed a certain threshold. (For example, some types of safety equipment may be rated for a maximum weight limit of 300 pounds total.)
