As a Powerhouse Assistant Shift Engineer, you will assist with overall care and control of the Power Plant and control/ maintain the Process Water Building operations. The Power area assistant Engineer will work with the Shift engineer (2nd class) on overall operations of the area and main operational control of mining solutions and auxiliaries. They will train under the Shift Engineer to ensure they learn the full duties of the Shift Engineer. There will assignments and testing as part of the area training. They will be time sensitive.
Safety is our #1 priority always and we follow National Electrical Code (NEC) and Mosaic’s high safety standards.
On a typical day you might engage in:
  • Following the direction of the Area Coordinator/Shift engineer, ensure process targets are being met in a controlled manner. Complete field routines and sampling procedures to ensure equipment and process are maintained at optimal efficiency and in good repair. Enter Service Requests to repair deficiencies in the equipment and perform minor adjustments/repairs to the equipment that are within the capability of the operator.
  • Stay current on equipment lockout procedures and to apply these procedures to individual equipment for maintenance purposes. Ensure maintenance tasks will not interrupt process targets and that all equipment is isolated to a zero-energy state prior to releasing for maintenance. Ensure all equipment deficiencies have been addressed prior to placing the equipment back in service.
  • Work with the Shift engineer to ensure they strive to achieve the high standards set in the area. Continuously review area manuals to ensure they are up to date and reflect the current operating mode. Follow the direction of the Shift engineer and the Asset Integrity and Reliability Department to continuously advance personal knowledge of a Reliability Centered approach to plant maintenance with the goal of challenging the certification offered by this department.
  • Be diligent in their studies to further their education in Power engineering. Get tests done in an acceptable time frame. Ultimate goal is to reach 2nd class status, and to complete are training in a timely manner.
  • Dedicate time and focus on a relentless pursuit of an injury free workplace. Complete Safety Audits, attend safety meetings, attend area meetings and work with maintenance personnel to ensure all reasonable steps are being taken to ensure each maintenance job is being performed safely. Participate in and contribute to continuous improvement and workout teams. Work with the area coordinator, Shift supervisor and process engineers to continuously search for and implement operating changes contributing to process improvement.
This position is located at Belle Plaine. Belle Plain, Canada (Union) Operations began in 1964 and was the first, and the largest, potash solution mine in the world. Belle Plaine’s potash is white due to the unique solution mining techniques. The on-site dry product warehouse capacity is 250,000
Tonnes. The transportation of outgoing products is by rail and truck to deliver to farmers around the world. These products are used in agriculture and in a variety of industrial environments.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have the Following:
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Power Engineering Certification
  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work in extreme weather
  • Ability to read, speak and write in English…Safety is #1
  • Must be able to receive, process and understand verbal communication
