Opportunity:

PEC requires a Day Shift Assistant Relief Operator (Assistant Shift Powe/Operating Engineer) (DSARO). Reporting to the Chief Operating Engineer, the successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our employees and our neighbors, be a team player, possess strong analytical aptitude, show attention to detail, have excellent communication skills, be willing to take part in continuing education, be creative, think logically, have good problem-solving skills, and have excellent technical knowledge.

 

Duties:

Typical duties and responsibilities include but are not inclusive of shift operations of the power plant, feed water testing, troubleshooting technical issues and applying operational skills in maximizing energy production and efficiency. This includes the application of problem-solving skills in real time, managing outage activities and aiding in the development of and adherence to operation procedures.

 

In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to:

Work on day shift Monday to Friday (40hr) typically 6:00am to 2:00pm
Be flexible to work occasional day/night/weekend shifts for coverage purposes, ie. vacation, illness, training and other relief needs as required
Operating and maintaining gas turbines, steam turbine, heat recovery steam generators, and associated ancillary equipment
Participate in the establishment and achievement of plant operational objectives
Communicate effectively through our computerized maintenance management system and be familiar with PLC/DCS/HMI interfaces
Responsibly perform various safety functions including lockout, hazard assessment/job safety analysis, and active control of contractors
Participate in routine preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment.
Contribute to outage planning and support
Operate equipment safely and reliable, in accordance with O. Reg. 219/01. Execute start-up, shutdown and operation of the plant consistent with Atura Power operating procedures
Qualifications/Competencies:

Recognized interprovincial 2ndClass Power (Operating) Engineer Certificate – Required
Experience in combined/simple cycle power plants preferred

 

Physical Requirements:

Lift 50 pounds,
Ascend/descend 100’ of stairs and ladders multiple times during a 12-hour shift
