The Power Engineer is responsible to ensure the optimum, efficient operations of boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, HVAC and heat generating equipment. The position also includes the operation and maintenance of the exterior and interior facilities.

Position Requirements:

 

Operate and service building/plant (e.g., boilers, chillers, HVAC, automation systems, fire systems, emergency power) within code requirements
Perform daily boiler chemical tests, calculates impurities, adds chemicals as necessary
Maintain and service boilers and hot water systems
Monitor and maintains control system
Repair minor electrical equipment and wiring
Maintain ventilation units
Repair minor commercial kitchen equipment
Proactive preventative and reactive maintenance to guest suites, hallways, back of house and departmental requests.
Advise immediate supervisor of conditions which might affect the operation of the buildings mechanical systems
Become thoroughly familiar with hotel’s emergency procedures and perform assigned duties per hotel and departmental procedures
Make all necessary repairs to maintain the hotel’s operations
Become thoroughly familiar with all phases of operation and maintenance necessary to operate and repair all refrigeration systems, laundry, and kitchen equipment
Perform all repairs, maintenance and replacement of parts for preventive maintenance schedule and accurately and neatly record all pertinent data
Continually assess the preventive maintenance schedule to ensure that equipment longevity, avoidance of repairs and down time, ease of operation and efficiency are all being maximized pursuant to manufacturing recommendations
Install new equipment and systems as directed
Maintain tools and maintenance equipment properly
Pool & Spa maintenance
Respond to guest complaints promptly and efficiently to avoid inconvenience or discomfort
Assume responsibility for training lesser trained personnel in the operation and maintenance of all mechanical systems
Ensure that all established rules, regulations, policies, and procedures are strictly adhered to
Keep all controls functioning properly by testing, adjusting and calibrating in accordance with manufacturer and design engineering specifications
Complete daily maintenance report
Comply with WRS’s Occupational Health and Safety Program and the Regulation of WorkSafeBC
Report any unsafe conditions, practices or injuries to their supervisor as soon as possible
Set a good safety example
All other duties as assigned
Ability to provide a satisfactory criminal record check

Skills & Experience

 

Familiarity with WHMIS, environmental, safety and emergency procedures
Ability to work within a fast paced team environment
Ability to demonstrate initiative, ownership of challenges and have an excellent understanding of how a maintenance department works
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and a passion for dealing with and emotionally connecting with others
Ability to work a flexible work schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays (and overnight shift occasionally)
Previous experience in a similar role in a similar size/type of property
Strong attention to detail
Must possess a BC Power Engineers 4th Class ticket
Must be able to work in temperatures like freezers (-20°C) and Boiler rooms (40°C), possibly for one hour or more
Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 10 hours in length
Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other locations of the hotel on a timely basis
Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning and repair/maintenance tasks
Must be able to frequently lift 50 lbs
Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity
Must be able to operation machinery as required; Works with, drill presses, power saws, table saws, etc.
Must be knowledgeable about common hazards: includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals
Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment
