Purpose and Objective: Under supervision of the Chief Engineer, responsible for the proper operations and maintenance of HVAC equipment in a safe manner, in accordance with the Alberta Safety Codes Act, Concorde and Authority prescribed standards. Provide work direction, orientation, training and work review/inspection for Building Maintenance operators (BMO / 4th Class Power Engineer). Report directly to the Chief Engineer/Assistant Chief Engineer.
Specific Responsibilities and Duties:
Required to understand, comply with and contribute to the policies and procedures including the health and safety policies of Concorde and Calgary Airports Authority.
Ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations.
Follow established safety protection procedures.
Provides work direction, orientation, training and work review/inspection to assigned personnel for assigned shifts.
Responsible for the continuous supervision (as per ABSA regulations) of the power plant under the supervision of the Chief Power Engineer.
Lead a crew of Building Maintenance Operators (BMO) and BMO Assistants to perform a variety of operational projects and technical services for HVAC Department. Provide HVAC control-related directions to other trades as required.
Ensures heating and power plant equipment is maintained and repairs performed,
Ensure project status and/or maintenance performance is documented and timely reported to Airport Operation Center (AOC).
To provide required administrative support to Chief Engineer/Assistant Chief Engineer as needed, such as time sheet review and manpower scheduling.
Required to make recommendations regarding structural modifications for installation, repair, replacement or maintenance of all assigned equipment.
Ensure Services Building Visitor Sign-in and Sign-out form is filled.
Ensure logbook is updated and maintained to record matters relating to the operation and maintenance of Calgary Airport Power Plant and Airport Facilities.
Comply with all company policies and safety procedures.
Perform routine Power Plant equipment monitoring, startups/shutdowns, isolation/de-isolation (LOTO).
Performs other duties as required. (Water chemistry for closed/open loops, steam generators, water softeners, troubleshoot and resolve HVAC process problems.
Assist the Airport Duty Manager to assess problems with the facilities as required.
Participate in commissioning and start-up of HVAC systems.
Read and interpret schematics, blueprints and follow verbal instructions.
Authority: Complete authority to fulfill the responsibilities specified herein, in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures.
Education: Minimum Requirements
Valid Alberta Trade Certificate of 3rd Class Power Engineering.
Fluent in English both written and verbal.
In-depth knowledge of various HVAC systems, equipment, maintenance and operations.
Proficient with building automation systems (Johnson Controls Metasys / EnteliWeb/ Desigo).
Working knowledge of Fire Safety systems.
General knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
Proficient in applicable software applications.
General computer knowledge.
Knowledge of strategic planning.
Knowledge of human resource management principles and procedures.
Good knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety workplace rules and requirements.
Must be able to obtain AVOP, Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit.
Experience: Minimum Requirements
3 years’ experience working as a 3rd Class Power Engineer in a large commercial / industrial facility (minimum 4 staff)
3 years’ experience working with a team of 3rd and 4th class Shift Engineers and Building Maintenance Operators (minimum 6 staff)

Mandatory Requirements to Maintain the Position
Valid Alberta Trade Certificate of 3rd Class Power Engineering or higher.
Valid Alberta Driver’s License
Current Transport Canada security clearance
Current Airport Authority Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)
Other Requirements
Must be physically fit, able to handle heavy load up to 50lbs.
Physically demanding, combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling.
Must be able to obtain AVOP, Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit.
Must be able to pass all job required training.
