MECHANICAL PATROLPERSON (BAND LEVEL 6)
Department of Facilities Management
(Contractual Position to July 25, 2025)
DUTIES
The successful applicant will perform skilled work in the operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of both low or high pressure steam heating plant equipment and machinery within Central Utilities which includes the Central Heating Plant, the Health Sciences Centre, External Plants, and the Ocean Sciences Centre. Duties include operating heating boilers, emergency generators, maintaining seawater pumping systems, cleaning header tanks, annual inspection of pressure vessels, applying protective coatings to pressure vessels, starting up or shutting down systems for seasonal operations, and inspecting and maintaining emergency power equipment; inspecting boilers, compressors, pumps, chillers and evaporators; checking on the operation of electrical and mechanical equipment; making necessary adjustments and repairs to equipment; maintaining correct pressures and temperatures in equipment; maintaining a log book; cleaning boilers and hot water heating tanks; responding to maintenance trouble calls; inputting work orders; and performing other related duties as required. This position will be on the regular daily maintenance schedule but may be required to do intermittent shift work under extenuating circumstances.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (1-3 years) in power engineering, supplemented by experience (1-3 years) in maintenance, heating, and repair services in a large building complex; graduation from high school; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Possession of a valid 3rd Class Power Engineer Certificate, a valid driver’s licence and abstract issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador are required.
SALARY $31.18 – $36.23 per hour (NAPE Local 7801)
An upscale hiring step will apply to this position (Step 2)
Plus market differential of $2.00 per hour
