As a Mechanical Maintenance Worker 3, you will be responsible for the operations, maintenance, testing, repair and upgrade to plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems as well as life control systems at City owned facilities. Primary duties include:
Monitor, test and operate HVAC systems to ensure systems are operating correctly and safely.
Respond to and resolve issues identified by tenants, including emergencies.
Complete scheduled preventive maintenance and ensure that maintenance manuals are up-to-date.
Provide direction to contractors, as per City policies, including checking for quality of work.
Review plans and shop drawings for new and retrofit mechanical equipment, and work with contractors to correct deficiencies and commission equipment.

Qualifications
A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED) and a 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate (or provincial equivalent) or a Building Operator A certificate (or provincial equivalent) recognized by the Alberta Boilers Safety Association is required.
At least 4 years of experience operating and maintaining HVAC and life safety systems and equipment.
A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending OR; a valid Graduated Driver’s Licence (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
A related trade ticket (such as plumbing, refrigeration, sheet metal or millwright) recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board will be considered an asset.
Experience working in a commercial high-rise environment is an asset.
Strong communication, interpersonal and organization skills accompanied by well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
Ability to work both independently as well as be an effective team member.

Working Conditions: You may be exposed to conditions including noise, dust, hazardous materials (such as mold and asbestos), chemicals (such as boiler water treatments) and confined spaces.

Pre-employment Requirements
A security clearance will be conducted.
Must obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit.
Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
