The primary role of the Maintenance Technician is to provide hands on technical services in a mechanical repair capacity to support production uptime, ensuring optimal functioning of the production equipment and facilities. This position provides critical support in reducing production down time, implementation of preventive maintenance schedules, and effective troubleshooting of equipment.

The Maintenance Technician is a member of the maintenance team and as such, participates in team efforts to achieve assigned business unit goals; works closely with team members to ensure all maintenance activities are completed on time, according to SOP’s and regulatory requirements; and as required, provides support to other roles within the maintenance team. This position requires rotating 12-hour shift work, including weekends, and holiday in a 24/7 operation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
Preventative Maintenance

Perform preventive maintenance as per program requirements.
Respond appropriately to emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment to reduce manufacturing machine downtime.
Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, test and make adjustments.

Steam Boiler
Operate steam boiler.
Perform all safety protocols when operating steam boiler.
Update and maintain information in the system.
Coordinate activities of outside contractors when required.

Quality & Customer Focus
Build positive and productive relationships with internal customers and suppliers.
Ensure work area is kept clean at all times.
Contribute to the compliance of the FSSC 22000 system requirements, Vitalus policies and standard operating procedures (SOP’s), statutory, regulatory and customer requirements.
Contribute to the writing and review of standard operating procedures and standard work documentation for maintenance processes and tasks.
Comply and uphold quality systems requirements.

Safety & Environment
Adhere to all safety practices and protocols related to job responsibilities and tasks including wearing all appropriate PPE.
Act in accordance with company policies related to personal and group health and safety practices and procedures.

COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills, Ability)
Sound knowledge of manufacturing / industrial equipment
Equipment and mechanical troubleshooting skills
Completion of mandatory Health & Safety training including Lockout, Confined Space Entry, and WHMIS.
Familiarity with quality systems such as FSSC 22000, HACCP, GMP, 5S, and TPM.
Able to move from one task to another efficiently and accurately.
Demonstrates team approach, behaviors and interpersonal skills that contribute to a positive team and safe work environment.
Good verbal and written communication skills with the proven ability to clearly understand instructions and communicate one-on-one.
Organized in approach to work assignments, practices effective time management, and prioritizes tasks.
Working use of computer programs (i.e., FIIX, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft TEAMS).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 3 years hands-on industrial mechanic/maintenance technician work experience. Food industry experience preferred.
Vocational School (such as BCIT) certificate in building, equipment, mechanical or fluid transfer trades.
Class 4 or 3 Power Engineering certificate (or in the process of certification). If required, must be willing to begin Power Engineering program on their own time via correspondence course through BCIT with expected completion and certification within 18 months of hiring date.
Proven ability to troubleshoot equipment.
Understanding of fluid plant process flow.
Physical strength and stamina to complete maintenance and repair work.
Proven record of safety and work performance
