POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Manitoba Cooperative Honey Producers is looking to hire a Maintenance Engineer to join our team. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Engineer oversees machinery maintenance, selection and management of subcontractors, and interacts with line staff, external contractors, and the Plant Manager daily. This position would also be responsible for helping ensure that all HACCP/SQF and Food Safety requirements are met.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Equipment Management and Maintenance:

Troubleshoot technical issues and perform variable maintenance on machine breakdowns and operation.
Plan and prepare maintenance schedule. Perform routine maintenance to prevent breakdowns.
Solve equipment problems (i.e. boiler system) and determine cost effective solutions to fix and operate.
Communicate frequently and regularly with Plant Manager, other Maintenance staff, Bee Supplies, Accounts Payable, plant, and laboratory staff on maintenance issues.
Communicate regularly with city officials and other external people about maintenance standards and legislated requirements.
Complete accurate documentation and maintenance of HACCP records.
Subtrade and Contractor Management:

Hire and supervise sub-trades for electrical, forklifts, boiler, roofing, and flooring.
Research contractors and source multiple quotes to ensure jobs are completed in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
Miscellaneous:

Ensure adequate levels of shop supplies.
Source and pick up plant parts.
Conduct daily checks of work areas.
Complete pre-checks when necessary (i.e. metal detector).
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Grade 12 High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
5th Class Power Engineer, Millwright Red Seal, and/or Industrial Electrician Red Seal
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a similar setting required.
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS (PREFERRED)

Forklift certification
Driver’s License
WHMIS orientation
Knowledge of HACCP
Welding experience
Equipment maintenance, including machine, general shop and troubleshooting experience
Experience in designing preventative maintenance programs (building/equipment)
Building maintenance experience
