Summarized Position Responsibilities:
This position will perform minor construction, renovation, and maintenance of City buildings and facilities as well as various routine custodial and maintenance duties to ensure a clean, safe environment for all user groups. Maintain facility records by observing and recording information on ice-plant operation, building maintenance, user statistics and any other information required. Perform preventative maintenance on the facilities HVAC systems, identify malfunctions, troubleshoot, and undertake routine repairs or provide recommendations for those tasks of greater complexity. This position will also coordinate contracts to perform more complex City facility maintenance and repairs and assist other operators with installation, maintenance, and removal of ice in City arenas. Must be able to handle, use, and store high-pressure gases, fuels, paints, and toxic chemicals under existing federal and provincial guidelines to ensure a safe facility for workers and users and operate a variety of power tools and hand tools to perform skilled tasks to perform maintenance, repairs and renovations.

Our Ideal Candidate:

Provincially certified 4th Class Power Engineer certificate of qualification or combination of a Refrigeration Operator Certificate (RO) and a recognized Facility Maintenance certification or department required trade or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Arena Ice Maker’s certificate or a recognized equivalent to the RFABC course, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Police Information Check and ability to obtain enhanced RCMP security clearance
Other certificates required such as: Occupational First Aid Level I, WHMIS 2015, Forklift, Scissor Lift, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Asbestos and ladder training
Minimum of 2 years related experience
Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License
Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and DDC Building controls
Knowledge of HVAC systems and related controls, pumps, fire systems, refrigeration equipment and controls
Knowledge of facility operation and maintenance standards and procedures
Knowledge of fire alarms, fire extinguishers, fire fighting methods, emergency crowd control, and building evacuation, WHMIS, janitorial practices, including safe and proper handling of waxes, cleaners and other chemicals
