Position: 5th Class Engineer/ Building Maintenance Support (Full-time)
Union: Non-union
Anticipated Shift: Day/Evening (regular hours) with some weekend work required (overtime)
Daily Hours Worked: Monday – Friday 1330-2200 (1:30pm-10:00pm) – 8 paid hours (30 minute unpaid meal break)
Annual Base Hours: 2080
Position Overview:
Under the general direction of the Building Superintendent and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission and values of the Winnipeg Clinic, the incumbent maintains and performs routine and preventative maintenance/repairs, with inspection of all aspects of facility operations and security, including (but not limited to) the building envelope, building systems and overall grounds (internal/external properties) for the Winnipeg Clinic. The incumbent responds to emergency calls for such infrastructure, with some weekend/holiday work as required. Other duties as applicable.
Experience:
Two (2) years’ experience in supporting mechanical building systems, heating, ventilation, cooling systems and their components in health care of institutional facility
General maintenance/renovations/upkeep of facilities, offices etc.
Education: (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
Grade 12 or equivalent
Valid Manitoba or Inter-provincial 5th Class Power Engineer Certificate (or working toward completion); and
Certification and/or experience in other related trades would be an asset, i.e. electrical, plumbing, painting, refrigeration, carpentry and HVAC
Qualification and Skills:
Lift and carry heavy machinery (pumps, compressors, etc.); Other (boxes, moving desks; shoveling snow etc.)
Good interpersonal, organizational and communications skills
Required to perform record keeping of facility maintenance operations. Maintain comprehensive records of all work completed
Ability to work on own initiative with little supervision
Demonstrated independent and collaborative decision-making skills
Ability to take direction
Demonstrated ability to communicate in English; both orally and in writing
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Customer Service
Ensure that a superior level of cooperation, service and support is provided
Promptly respond to issues and service requests
Operations:
Perform general and specialized maintenance and repairs to site properties and surrounding properties under the direction of the Building Superintendent
Complete assigned service requests for both interior and exterior, and common area issues in a timely manner
Complete clinical exam/office turnover activities, including both light and heavy maintenance; this could include repair or replacement of fixtures, basic carpentry, floor restoration etc.
Complete repairs, routine plumbing repairs, repairs and maintenance requiring carpentry skills, painting, and basic electrical repairs, safely use and maintain tools of the job
Inspect grounds, facilities, and equipment to determine if repairs or preventative maintenance is required
Take initiative to correct deficiencies as necessary by maintaining clean and garbage free lobbies, hallways, and properties, replacement of light bulbs, plumbing, electrical, utilizing a snow blower & limited shoveling of entrances/exits etc.
Maintain the cleanliness and organization of all electrical, mechanical and work areas; as well as supply and storage areas
Perform all facets of the job in accordance with the legislation applicable to the jurisdiction, including: Health and Safety standards, WHMIS, Human Rights,
Comply with health & safety procedures ensuring the use of required safety equipment and identifying unsafe practices and conditions while maintaining a clean and safe working environment
Ensure all areas are free of hazards and where not able to resolve, ensure management are informed for immediate resolution
Maintain regular and timely documentation of maintenance activities
Respond to after-hours emergencies (emergency contact number is required)
May be required to work with contractors and monitor work progress
Security of the building (locking all doors, setting alarms, ensuring only designated personnel are in the building, reporting incidents as required etc.)
All other duties within the scope of the job, as requested by management
Physical Requirements:
Good physical and mental health and dexterity required. Job requires lifting, bending, working from ladders, or in confined spaces and enclosures, and working in all climate conditions
May be required to work extended hours/weekends/holidays/provide coverage for Building Superintendent
May encounter individuals that are asked to leave premises/property
