POSITION: Facility Maintenance Lead Hand
SALARY: $36.51 (July 2024 rate)
CLASSIFICATION: J13
HOURS OF WORK: 80 hours bi-weekly (afternoon shift, Wednesday to Sunday; however, due to

operational requirements the days of the week or shift may change)
STATUS: Regular, full time

SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the Facility Maintenance Lead hand
provides work guidance and direction to facility maintenance workers and cleaners as well as performs maintenance
work in the facilities. As well the Facility Maintenance Lead hand ensures facilities are maintained to meet established
expectations as well as assists in providing direction to maintenance staff on projects; ensure set-ups are completed;
assists with the training of staff; assists in ensuring communications are maintained between shifts. Reports all issues to
the Supervisor and/or Manager of Operations.

 

JOB DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Provides ongoing work guidance, direction as well as assistance to facility maintenance workers and cleaners for all

weekend crews.

Provides support for the maintenance supervisor with evaluations.
Facilitates a team approach in the delivery of maintenance functions and services.
Maintains workflow and work standards for shifts(s) as well as ensures facilities and equipment are maintained
according to established expectations.Trains employees in arena/equipment maintenance, pool operation and maintenance, building cleaning, security and
safety. Providing feedback where necessary.Ensures facilities are ready and available for use, in accordance with day and bookings sheets.
Ensures and maintains standard levels of building cleanliness, pool water conditions and ice surface conditions.
Practices and maintains safe working conditions, as well as to assist to ensure work procedures are safe and in
accordance with WCB and fire regulations.Performs building and equipment maintenance related to painting, plumbing, janitorial equipment, arena/ice making
equipment, heating systems and pool operations.Performs building cleaning functions.
Maintains contact with teams, organizations, and the general public and advises on facilities use and availability
according to the booking schedule.Monitors and records the operation of the arena refrigeration plant and be fully conversant with emergency
procedures.Operates refrigeration equipment and maintains ice surfaces in the arena and assists in maintaining ice.
Operates Pool equipment and maintains Pool operation according to health standards.
Make routine security checks as well as maintains order in the behaviour of patrons in public areas.
Point of contact for all issues from all departments that occur during the weekend and responsible for resolving the
issues.

QUALIFICATIONS
• High school and three years experience as a Facility Maintenance Worker III, or equivalent.

Refrigeration Operator or Fourth-Class Power Engineer’s Certificate recognized by the BC Safety Authority and
Pool Operators I and II Certificates are required.Recognized post secondary courses in leadership and supervision or equivalent, with demonstrated previous
supervisory experience.Knowledge of building maintenance, building cleaning and building trades, including Health Department
regulations governing the operation of public pools and rules and regulations which govern public indoor arenas
where applicable.Knowledge of materials, tools and equipment used in janitorial and building maintenance work, including
WHMIS, and the safe handling of chemicals, corrosive materials and pressurized gases.Ability to provide work guidance and direction to staff.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and responsibility while working with minimal supervision.
Excellent interpersonal skills in communicating effectively with staff and the public.
Ability to work in and promote a team approach and environment.
Ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet established timelines.
Sufficient physical strength and stamina to perform the required duties.
A valid B.C. Drivers Licence (Class 5) is required.
Ability to work a variety of shifts, including days, afternoon, evenings, weekdays and weekends as required.
First aid/CPR certificate would be an asset.
A clear and current criminal record check is a condition of employment, and is the financial responsibility of
the successful candidate.
