Position Profile:
Reporting to the Lead Operator, the Contract Shift Operator is responsible for the safe and reliable operations of the facility during his / her shift. The Contract Shift Operator will be accountable for the monitoring of process equipment and providing intervention to maintain product spec within design limits. In addition to working directly with the Lead Operator, the Contract Shift Operator has direct lines of communication with Business Development, Marketing and Facilities Engineering to address operational and product export concerns in a timely manner.
This role is located at our Nottingham Gas Plant in Saskatchewan. The preferred candidate is an independent contractor with their fourth class power engineering ticket.
Key Responsibilities:
Become familiar with the pipeline systems in SE Saskatchewan, understanding flow paths, rates, and where above ground infrastructure is located;
Develop thorough and descriptive logs of day-to-day activities during shift;
Assess and manage risk in all aspects of operations while on shift;
Take a proactive approach to GGS troubleshooting and optimization;
Complete compressor readings and equipment building walkthroughs;
Completion of tasks as assigned per weekly planning meetings;
Maintain car seal inspection records;
Ensure safety equipment is in good working condition through use of facility safety inspection and above ground tank inspections;
Hold high standard for workplace cleanliness – ensure facility grounds, buildings, control room and process buildings are kept clean;
Development, scheduling, and completion of PM’s and workorders;
Submit safety reporting forms on behalf of facility for:
Safety observations
Incident reports
Release or spills on site
Process safety upsets
External communications with Stakeholders
Assist in the development of JSA’s and site specific operating procedures;
Acting safe work permit issuer (SWI) while adhering to SRIC’s Control of Work code of practice;
Sampling of critical process streams or chemicals at desired frequency;
Manage and maintain inventory of working fluids (glycols, oils, corrosion inhibitor, methanol etc.);
Develop a strong knowledge and adherence to SRIC’s Code of Practices;
Chair safety meetings;
Become familiar with SRIC’s internal Risk Matrix, ensuring you can assess and manage risk while on shift;
Provide onsite supervision of contract service providers working onsite;
Communicate with Lead Operator, Business Development, Marketing and Facilities Engineering with health, safety and process issues;
Provide coverage for vacation and sick days.
Required Skills, Experience & Education:
Preference to those who are a ticketed independent contractor;
Fourth class power engineering ticket is preferred;
Grade 12 or equivalent;
Valid driver’s license;
Physically fit;
Three (3) years of industry related experience in a mechanical setting considered an asset but not required;
Applicable mandatory Occupational Health & Safety training, certifications and other Corporately required training and certification;
Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
Strong organizational and administrative skills;
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to use sound judgement in responding to customers;
Strong analytical and computer skills;
Ability to work independently as well as within a team;
Ability to provide guidance and on-the-job training;
Ability to use sound judgement in day to day activities and in making decisions in emergency situations;
Ability to work with manual and power equipment and tools;
Commitment to continuous learning.
