The salary range for this position is:

Recruitment range: $83,094- $91,625 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

Performance range: starting salary to max of $108,088 is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
Working as part of a team of Managers supporting Operations and reporting to the Director, Maintenance and Operations, the Chief Utilities Engineer is responsible for the effective operation, maintenance, and integrity of campus energy systems including heating plants and associated infrastructure, energy transfer stations in campus buildings as well as the ice rink ammonia plant. This position provides leadership to the shift engineers, refrigeration mechanics and controls technicians.

The Chief Utilities Engineer is designated as the responsible person under the Act and regulations having jurisdiction for the safe operation, maintenance and repairs (regulated work) of the various plants and systems on the Gordon Head campus.

As required, this role will need to work varied hours, including weekends. In case of emergencies, this position is a key member of the incident response team.
Job Requirements
This position requires at a minimum a 3rd or 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate plus a minimum of 10 years of experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience requirements:

Recent successful supervisory or management experience obtained in a unionized building trades organization
Building construction, practical understanding of working with building systems
Delivering an effective campus heating program
Knowledge requirements include:

Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license
Current electrical distribution low and high voltage systems, communications wiring, fire alarm and emergency generator systems
Safety training and knowledge of applicable codes, standards and WorkSafeBC regulations
Proficient in the use of standard office hardware and software including MS Office (excel, word, outlook) and database applications (computerized maintenance management systems).
Effective use of modern business administration including financial/budget administration and basic accounting processes
