POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Recreation Officer (Sep to Mar) this position is required to operate a variety of equipment and performs many assignments within the recreation facilities. The work involves the safe operation, routine inspection and maintenance of equipment and vehicles used on the job. This position operates up to a 37½ hour work week and may require shift work, including weekends.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Oversees the conduct of facility users and provides positive and effective customer service.

· Monitors the flow of patrons in the facility to ensure operational safety and security within the designated areas and enforces applicable rules and regulations.

· Assists the public and user groups, including skate sharpening and setting up and taking down for scheduled events or activities.

· Performs cashier duties, including receiving payments, issuing receipts, and handling cash.

· Assists with the regular maintenance of the Arena, including janitorial/custodial duties, identifying general facility maintenance issues, performing minor repairs, and ensuring that supplies are in stock.

· Maintains the ice surface, including flooding, operating the ice resurfacer, operating the edger, and ice painting.

· Assists with operating and maintaining the ice-making equipment, including compressors, condensers, refrigeration units, and related piping.

· Assists with operating and maintaining the building heating system.

· Prepares reports on personal or municipal property injuries, losses, or damages.

· Performs daily routine inspections of equipment, including meter and record readings.

· Monitors ice quality and energy usage to ensure that equipment and facilities comply with municipal standards and regulations.

· Assists tradespersons in repairs, tasks, and facilities maintenance projects.

· Performs minor clerical and recreation facility support duties.

· Identifies hazards and performs corrective measures, and/or reports hazards to supervisor.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

· Secondary school graduation (e.g., Grade 12 education)

· Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check

· Physically able to satisfy the requirements of this position.

· An affinity for and a willingness to learn the operation of machines, vehicles and heavy equipment and be willing to undertake training as required for the job duties.

· Able to maintain harmonious relationships with the public and staff members.

· Valid BC Driver’s Licence (minimum Class 5).

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

· 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate or Ice Facilities Operation Certificate

· A valid Occupational First Aid, Level 1 certificate

· Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations as established by WorkSafe BC.

Job Type: Casual

Pay: $30.18 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 37.5 per week
