Position Summary and Scope of Service

Provides services in accordance with the Mission and Values of St.Amant, the goals and objectives of Corporate Resource Services and promotes a customer service focus in the provision of indirect services to St.Amant clients, visitors and customers.

The Environmental Engineer is responsible for working collaboratively with the Shop Head or designate and coworkers of Facilities to support the clients of St.Amant by providing excellent customer service when performing the range of duties and responsibilities as outlined in this job description.

Qualifications

Educational:

Manitoba 3rd Class Power Engineer Certificate
Grade XII Diploma or Certificate
Proficiency in the English language that enables the incumbent to complete any reading and or writing requirements necessary to perform all aspects of the position in a safe and timely manner
Professional:

Several years work experience in maintaining environmental systems in a large facility which includes operating steam supply systems, converters & humidity systems, heating systems, air conditioning systems, aid handling units, pumps, electrical and electronic systems, pneumatic systems and refrigeration systems
Experience with and operational knowledge of mechanical equipment and tools used in the maintenance of equipment and the facility, including basic electrical wiring, plumbing and welding responsibilities
Experience working with fire alarm panels, locking door systems, and controls for heating and cooling systems
Ability to record data manually and using various software programs
Personal:

Communicates professionally with customers, coworkers and external partners and establishes and maintains effective working relationships
Functions effectively as a team member and demonstrate a strong collaborative approach to problem solving
Correctly interprets and applies the policies, procedures, laws and regulations including but not limited to safety, routine work responsibilities, prevention and maintenance programs, clients and staff responsibilities in a timely manner
Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty environment both inside and outside, and in confining spaces
Physically capable of meeting the demands of the position and in good health and able to maintain a satisfactory attendance record
Able to work independently requiring minimal supervision, and to accept direction willingly as required
Able to work different shifts, including weekends
Organizes work in an effective and efficient manner
Anticipates issues/concerns and develop pro-active solutions within available resources
Resolves complaints in a collaborative and timely manner
Ability to comply with St.Amant and service dress codes, shoe policy, sanitation policies and maintain personal appearance and cleanliness

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include:

Operates boilers, air compressors and chiller, conducts water testing (boiler/heating/cooling and pool systems) and safety inspections
Ensures that boiler room equipment is in safe operating condition before leaving at the end of a shift
Retrieves Work Requests from the HIPPO Maintenance Management System regularly throughout the normal working day
Responds to all types of maintenance Work Orders as assigned by the Shop Head or Designate
Repairs and maintains a wide range of mechanical equipment such as beds, wheelchairs, lifts, etc.
Performs yard maintenance including snow removal when required
Services HVAC units, pneumatic controls, fan coil units and refrigeration units
Monitors and maintains steam supply system, converters and humidity supply
Repairs and conducts preventative maintenance responsibilities for electrical equipment such as motors, wiring, plugs, etc. for electrical equipment up to 220 volts
Troubleshoots and resolves electrical problems that may include repairing or replacing switches, outlets, breakers, fuses, lighting and wiring
Supports the Shop Head and Facility Services coworkers to work as a team to consistently provide clients and staff with a comfortable and safe living and working environment
Communicates with client, staff and leaders and external partners in a professional, timely and considerate manner
Prior to entering a client’s home (living units) arrangements are made to ensure that the timing is appropriate
Acts as Fire Marshall when designated in accordance with the Emergency Measures Manual
