The Manitoba government is seeking highly motivated Maintenance Assistants to work within the Asset Management Division of Labour, Consumer Protection and Government Services. The incumbents will work within Districts 2 at Milner Ridge Correctional Centre, Manitoba. The positions offer reliable and full time employment with a defined pension plan. Conditions of Employment:

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers Licence and be able to work in other locations within the Division as needed.
Must possess and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check. Satisfactory Security Check and Child Abuse Registry may be required.
Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including sitting, lifting, reaching, working at heights and in confined spaces.
Must be able to work overtime, including evenings and weekends.
Qualifications:
Essential:

Trade designation or equivalent combination of education (5th class Power Engineer, partial or full trades certificate, BOMI Certificate) or demonstrated experience with general building and grounds maintenance, and equipment.
Knowledge of workplace health and safety, policies and legislation.
Ability to analyze and problem solve.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain positive working relationships.
Verbal communication skills.
Written communication skills.
Duties:
The Maintenance Assistant performs a variety of tasks relating to the operation and maintenance of government facilities such as office buildings, housing units and correctional centres. They are primarily responsible for duties such as preventative and corrective maintenance activities inside and outside of the buildings, maintaining heating and cooling equipment, assisting tradespersons and grounds keeper, performing daily checks, inspections and preventative maintenance on life safety systems and helping maintain client relations.
